Frequently Asked Questions
What does the PSU do?
At the PSU, we are dedicated to improving the quality and accessibility of our education through building up the student movement on campus, defending student rights and working with other student organizations.
We fight for a fair and inclusive environment — advocating for financial support and resources that improve your education's accessibility on a basic level. We fight for the rights of our international, BIPOC and LGBTQAI2S+ students and represent our concerns to the administration.
We are not JUST a party planning committee, we run events throughout the year that encourage students to participate in discussions and action, making their voices heard.
We provide front facing support in marketing our programs through merchandise, networking, alumni events and more.
We create a safe space and opportunities for students to connect, collaborate, and build lasting relationships.
We advocate for the highest quality in the arts programs in the face of existential funding cuts.
This is your union, here to support and prioritize you every step of the way.
Who pays for the PSU’s events?
The Performance Student Union is funded by all of us in union dues. Our specific funding is allocated by the TMSU, SCS and personal donations. For more information on our responsible use of funds, look to our past financial records here.
Why should I care about the Union?
The Union fights for your rights as a student, advocates for a fair and inclusive environment, and works to make your education more accessible. Drawing from the long history of the student movement as a vehicle for tangible political action, the PSU organizes alongside community members as well as student groups to advocate for true change. We provide a space for you to connect with other students and make your voice heard on campus!
How do I get into contact with the PSU?
Sign up for our newsletter to hear directly from us: events, program specific news, legislation that may affect you, and so much more! You will also see our events posted in the Performance School’s weekly emails. Follow us on Instagram for an up to date feed of our events, news and solidarity partners. And keep up to date with us on this website which will host our merch, event times and important documentation.
When can I buy merch?
Merch sales are set to start this October. Stay up to date on our Instrgram and check back on the website!
I’m an alumni, can I still get involved?
Absolutely! All our events are open to alumni. The PSU works alongside the Performance Alumni Association to connect students to industry professionals and runs events focused on just that throughout the year. Follow us on Instagram to stay in the know.
Can non-Performance students attend events?
Yes. All events are open to TMU students. However, Performance opening and closing parties have a ticket policy: if you are not a student at the Performance School proof of purchase to the show will be required for entry! In this, we hope to encourage more TMU students to support our program and the hard work it takes to stage live productions.
